FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, the statutory food safety authority established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Food Business Operators (FBOs) covered by the licensing and registration framework must obtain the applicable FSSAI Registration or License.
The applicable category depends on the nature of the food business and the criteria prescribed by FSSAI. From 1 April 2026, FSSAI revised the turnover thresholds for new applications:
| Category | Turnover | Government fee |
|---|---|---|
| FSSAI Registration | Up to ₹1.5 crore | ₹100 per year |
| State License | Above ₹1.5 crore to ₹50 crore | Varies by business category |
| Central License | Above ₹50 crore | ₹7,500 per year |
Our ₹1,499 is all-inclusive for FSSAI Basic Registration — the government fee is included.
2026 update: FSSAI Registrations and Licenses now have perpetual validity. They remain valid unless suspended, cancelled or surrendered, subject to ongoing compliance.
Turnover alone does not decide every category — certain activities, locations and business types have specific criteria. Street food vendors already registered with a Municipal Corporation or Town Vending Committee under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 are treated as deemed registered, subject to conditions.
Who needs it: restaurants and dhabas, cloud kitchens and online food sellers, home bakers and tiffin services, grocery stores, sweets and namkeen businesses, dairy businesses, food importers and exporters, transporters and storage, manufacturers, caterers and canteens, e-commerce food businesses, and beverage and juice businesses.
