FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is the statutory food safety authority established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Food Business Operators (FBOs) covered by the licensing and registration framework must obtain the applicable FSSAI Registration or License.
The applicable category depends on the nature of the food business and the criteria prescribed by FSSAI. The revised turnover thresholds for new applications took effect from 1 April 2026.
